American Society of Plastic Surgeons
Client
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world, composed of more than 6,000 board-certified plastic surgeons. With Reingold's strategic and creative guidance, ASPS is bringing its good work—and the societal benefits of plastic surgery—into the mainstream.
Challenge
As Reingold worked with ASPS to carry out a multifaceted public education campaign over several years, we needed to collect solid evidence that our efforts actually "moved the needle" of awareness, understanding, and perceptions among our targeted audiences—primarily women ages 25 to 54 who have had or are interested in having plastic surgery.
Enter Reingold
To help gauge the impact of the campaign, ASPS commissioned two surveys of statistically identical audiences: one in February 2006 and another in September 2007 of 822 individuals who are considering having plastic or cosmetic surgery and/or a plastic or cosmetic procedure in the next year or two.
Results
The survey results show impressive gains for plastic surgeons and ASPS: 92 percent of respondents think plastic surgeons are the most qualified to perform plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures—up from 82 percent; 72 percent strongly agree (and 97 percent agree) that a plastic surgeon is the best medical professional to perform cosmetic surgery such as liposuction, breast augmentation, or a tummy tuck—up from 57 percent; 72 percent strongly agree (and 97 percent agree) that a plastic surgeon is the best medical professional to perform reconstructive surgery—up from 63 percent; and 96 percent believe it is important that the medical professional who performs their plastic and cosmetic surgery procedure be an ASPS Member Surgeon, while 60 percent believe it is very important—up from 46 percent.
